Problems with EMI and RFI interference are not a new phenomenon; however, issues caused by RFI and EMI are ever more present with the rise of modern electronics. EMI and RFI cause electronic equipment to malfunction, and so for the military, aerospace, and healthcare industry, the performance of equipment is necessary to keep people alive and safe.
Designers and engineers of aerospace and defense equipment use both EMI and RFI shielding as a solution to ensure the proper execution of a critical mission. More technology is being placed in existing structures, which means planes and cars have many electronic devices that require protection from EMI and RFI. Complex electronics, such as radar and GPS, could lead to devastating results if problems arise. In the case of the military, electronic devices are, at times, under threat of an electromagnetic pulse or EMP attack. All these factors, and more, demand greater protection from Radio-Frequency interference and Electromagnetic interference.
RFI shielding is one of the best ways in which to protect sensitive and important equipment. This applies to life-saving equipment and commercial and personal electronics (smartphones, tablets, and laptops). Passenger vehicles now, on average, have over 100 computer parts that all require protection from EMI and RFI.
From missile systems to personal electronics, EMI and RFI are serious issues that require serious attention. During the design process, it is vitally important to create and apply the best possible EMI and RFI shielding.
